Mount Washington is the hill on the south bank of the Monongahela and Ohio rivers that gives Pittsburgh its best-known skyline view. In the city’s early days it was called Coal Hill, because miners worked the coal seam near its base and quarried rock from its slopes. The name changed to Mount Washington by 1876.
JUNKED. comes in from Canonsburg, about 15 miles away in a straight line, so Mount Washington is at the outer edge of where we go. We do come out, and we handle every step of the job, from the top floor to the truck.
Here’s how a job in Mount Washington works: call or text (412) 905-9453 or send the request form, ideally with a few photos. We give you a free quote, show up in the window we agreed on, and do all the carrying and loading. We donate and recycle what we can, haul away the rest, and sweep up before we leave. JUNKED. is fully insured and licensed.
German immigrants settled the hilltop in the 1800s and worked in the plants along the river below. The Monongahela Incline opened in 1870 and the Duquesne Incline in 1877, and both still carry riders up and down the hill. The big sign on the hillside near the Duquesne Incline has advertised everything from Alcoa to Bayer over the years.
Up top, homes and apartments sit close together on steep streets, many of them reached by front steps. We expect apartment move-outs, furniture from upper floors, basement cleanouts and full-house cleanouts.
Some blocks have very limited parking. If you know a good spot for a truck, or there’s an alley behind the building, mention it when you book.
The overlooks draw visitors all year, but most of the neighborhood behind it is homes and apartments. That means a steady stream of move-ins, move-outs and furniture swaps. We carry everything down steps and through narrow halls without damaging walls.
Apartment Cleanouts: Units cleared between moves and tenants.
Moving Cleanouts: What’s left after the movers go.
Furniture Removal: Couches, dressers, beds and recliners carried out.
Basement Cleanouts: Decades of stored boxes and furniture brought up and out.
House Cleanouts: Whole homes emptied, room by room.
Single Item Pickup: One couch, one mattress, one appliance.
