Coraopolis was incorporated in 1886. It was known earlier as Middletown, and its post office was called Vancefort. The Montour Railroad was headquartered here and hauled coal from the mines to the south. Its old right-of-way is now part of the Montour Trail, and the borough’s 1896 Richardsonian Romanesque train station is a local landmark.
